The court sits on the 3rd floor of the courthouse at 851 Grand Concourse in the Bronx, part of the 12th Judicial District of the New York State court system. The County Clerk's Office (Room 118) is in the same building.
Hours
The court's published hours are Monday–Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., per the official New York Courts website. Individual department windows may keep shorter hours, so call the department you need to confirm before you visit.
Departments & Phones
Unlike most courts, the Bronx court publishes a direct line for every department — and describes what each one handles:
- Probate Department — 718-618-2365. Decedents with a will who leave real and/or personal property worth more than $50,000; also handles requests to open a safe deposit box.
- Administration Department — 718-618-2370. Decedents without a will who leave real and/or personal property worth more than $50,000.
- Small Estate Department — 718-618-2309. Decedents with or without a will leaving personal property worth less than $50,000 in their name alone; the court offers a DIY Small Estate Affidavit Program for pro se filers.
- Guardian Department — 718-618-2380. SCPA Article 17 (infant) and Article 17A applications, and guardianship annual accountings; a DIY Guardianship Article 17A petition program is available for pro se applicants.
- Miscellaneous & Accounting Department — 718-618-2375. Estate and trust accountings, proceedings to compromise actions, revoke letters, compel fiduciaries to account, establish supplemental needs trusts, and SCPA Article 21 miscellaneous proceedings.
- Inventory of Assets Department — 718-618-2385. Inventories are due no later than 9 months from the date letters are issued to the fiduciary.

- Cashier — 718-618-2396. Certificates, certifications, and record searches.
Clerks can answer general questions about procedures and forms, but they cannot provide legal advice.
Help Center
The court's Help Center, under the leadership of Surrogate Hon. Nelida Malavé-Gonzalez, assists self-represented parties with basic information on procedural matters, court rules, and statutes. Some forms and informational brochures are also available.

Court Notices
The court's official page publishes these standing notices:
- Effective July 10, 2026: E-filing through NYSCEF is mandatory for all new Probate, Administration, Accounting, and Miscellaneous proceedings — and all related and subsequent proceedings, such as small estates and petitions to open a safe deposit box — commenced on or after July 10, 2026. Guardianship and Adoption proceedings may not be e-filed and must be filed in paper form. Unrepresented (pro se) litigants are exempt but may choose to participate. The court requires paper working copies of pleadings, motions (with all exhibits and responding papers), and accountings, with proof of e-filing attached.
- Effective July 10, 2026: The court holds its calendar as a hybrid calendar using recurring Microsoft Teams links, with the calendar list updated each Friday for the following week. New citations contain a QR code for appearing on the virtual platform for the hearing.

Since June 24, 2022, Bronx County Surrogate's Court filings, documents, and historical records can be viewed remotely using the WebSurrogate program — you can often check a file's status without a trip to the Grand Concourse.

- Free notary: The County Clerk's Office, 851 Grand Concourse, Room 118 (same building), has a notary available at no charge to witness your signing of the documents required in this court.
- Bronx County Public Administrator: For cases where there is no next of kin available or no one qualifies to file (nyc.gov/site/bronxpa).
- Bronx Property Clerk's Office: 215 East 161st Street, Room C27 — for items held by the NYPD; the property invoice is provided to the court.
